Diwali Hampers in Australia: Under-$50 Options, Prices and Order-By Dates

A buyer's guide to Diwali hampers in Australia: the main hamper types, what they cost, what to check before you pay, and when to order for Sunday 8 November.

NutriThrive Diwali Gift Box items: Darjeeling black tea, dried curry leaves and moringa lavender soap

Quick answer

You can buy a Diwali hamper in Australia for anything from about $20 to well over $200. The cheapest way to send one Australia-wide is a small pantry hamper that keeps for months, rather than a fresh-sweets basket that has to arrive within days. Our $20 Diwali Gift Box (Darjeeling tea, dried curry leaves and a handmade soap) is posted from Melbourne. For delivery before Diwali on Sunday 8 November 2026, order by 2pm Monday 26 October outside Melbourne metro, or by 2pm Wednesday 28 October in Melbourne metro.

  • Under $50: the $20 Diwali Gift Box (3 items), the $35 gift pack (4 items, includes moringa powder), or a two-pouch hamper you build yourself from $14.
  • Check before you buy: what's inside, how long it keeps, which postcodes the seller delivers to, and the order-by date.
  • Sending several? Four $20 boxes come to $80, which clears our $79 free AU shipping threshold.

Most Diwali hamper pages in Australia are product grids: lots of baskets, few facts. This guide does the comparison for you. It covers the main hamper types, what they cost, what to check before you pay, and when to order so the hamper lands before Diwali. We sell a small pantry hamper, so we've said where it fits and where a bigger basket from someone else might suit you better.

Types of Diwali hampers sold in Australia

Searching "Diwali hampers Australia" brings up five broad styles. They differ in how long they keep and how well they travel, which matters more than the basket.

Hamper typeUsually insideHow long it keepsPosting interstate
Fresh sweets (mithai) hamperBarfi, ladoo, peda, cookies, sometimes a diyaShort. Check the seller's storage note; many list days, not monthsPossible, but timing is tight and some need refrigeration on arrival
Dry fruit and nuts hamperAlmonds, cashews, raisins, dates, sometimes chocolateLonger while sealed. Check the pack datesUsually fine
Gourmet or wine hamperCrackers, chocolate, sparkling wine or mocktails, candlesVaries by itemFine, though alcohol deliveries usually need an adult to receive them
Candle and homewares boxCandles, diyas, tea-light holders, small decorDoesn't spoilFine, but glass needs good packing
Pantry hamper (tea, spices, soap)Loose leaf tea, dried curry leaves, spices, a soap barLong when kept sealed and dryEasy: light, flat and doesn't melt

If the person you're sending to will be swimming in mithai by Dhanteras, a pantry hamper is the one that gets used after the festival. If they're far away and you want a big "wow" basket, a gourmet or dry fruit hamper from a specialist hamper shop may suit you better.

What Diwali hampers cost in Australia

We looked at the Diwali hamper pages that rank for "Diwali hampers Australia" on 9 Oct 2026. The cheapest boxes started at about $32 to $40, and many baskets were priced above $100, with a few well over $200. Delivery costs are often extra, and some sellers deliver only within one city or offer postal delivery only on selected hampers.

If your budget is under $50, here's what you can send from our range. These are the live prices on our product pages today. Price per item is just the price divided by the number of products in the parcel.

The three items in the Diwali Gift Box cost $21.50 if you buy them separately, so the box costs a little less and comes packed together. The gift pack is the one to choose if the person already uses moringa powder. Write "includes moringa powder" on the card so there are no surprises.

Diwali hamper buying checklist

Run through this before you pay for any hamper, ours or anyone else's:

  1. A clear contents list. You should see every item and its size (for example "Darjeeling tea 100g"), not just "assorted goodies".
  2. Keep time. Fresh sweets need to be eaten quickly. If the hamper is going interstate or the recipient is travelling over Diwali, choose something that keeps.
  3. Delivery area. Some Diwali hamper sellers deliver only within Sydney or Melbourne for the festival. Check that the recipient's postcode is covered before you choose a design.
  4. Order-by date. Look for a stated cut-off for Diwali, not just "ships in 2 to 5 days". Rural addresses take longer.
  5. Total cost with delivery. Compare the price at checkout, not the price on the tile. A $40 basket with $20 delivery costs more than a $20 box with standard postage.
  6. Dietary notes. If sweets are included, check for egg, nuts, gluten and dairy. For a household with mixed diets, non-food or pantry items are simpler.
  7. Gift note and packing. Can you add a message? Is anything scented packed apart from the food? (We wrap our soap separately so the tea doesn't take on its scent.)
  8. Returns. Know the policy before you buy. Ours is seven days on unopened products.

Our under-$50 option: the $20 Diwali Gift Box

Our Diwali Gift Box is a small pantry hamper with three things people use long after the sweets are gone:

  • Darjeeling loose leaf black tea, 100g, from a family farm in Darjeeling. That's about 50 cups. It contains caffeine. Brew notes are in our Darjeeling brewing guide.
  • Dried curry leaves, 30g, whole leaves grown on our farm in Gujarat, for tadka. Use two to three times the amount you'd use fresh. For a recipe card to tuck in, try our 30-minute curry leaf dal.
  • Moringa and lavender soap bar, 95g, handmade by us in Australia on a melt-and-pour base, with moringa leaf, lavender fragrance and dried lavender flowers.

There's no moringa powder in the box. We pack it in Truganina, Melbourne, and dispatch the same day for orders placed before 2pm on weekdays. You can add a gift note at checkout or email us the wording after you order.

When a bigger hamper is the better buy: if you want a large showpiece basket, fresh mithai, or wine for a client, a specialist hamper shop will have more range. Our box is for people who want a useful, easy-to-post gift at a small-gift price.

Diwali hamper ideas you can put together yourself

If you'd rather assemble a hamper than buy one ready-made, keep it small and useful. Here are four combinations, priced from our shop, that you can top up with things you already have at home:

  • The cook's hamper ($14 to $21.50): dried curry leaves, a jar of homemade curry leaf podi from our podi recipe, and a handwritten tadka card. Add Darjeeling to round it out.
  • The tea tray ($7.50 plus what you have): Darjeeling 100g, a simple infuser and a brew card ("85 to 90°C, 3 to 4 minutes"). More ideas are in our gifts for tea lovers guide.
  • The host hamper ($20): the Diwali Gift Box plus a few diyas or tea lights from your own Diwali supplies.
  • The snack-jar hamper: curry leaf tadka snack jars you make at home. The method is in our Diwali gifts for friends post.

Packing tip: wrap soap or candles separately from tea and spices so the food doesn't pick up their scent. Use a box rather than an open basket if it's going in the post.

Order-by dates for Diwali 2026

Diwali is on Sunday 8 November 2026, and Dhanteras is Friday 6 November. Diwali isn't a public holiday in Australia, so couriers run a normal schedule. Order before 2pm (Melbourne time) on these dates for delivery before Diwali:

Delivering toOrder by (before 2pm)Usual delivery time after dispatch
Melbourne metroWednesday 28 October 20261 to 3 business days
Other Australian metro areasMonday 26 October 20263 to 4 business days
Rural areas (any state)As early as you canAllow up to 10 business days

Occasional carrier delays can add up to 2 business days, and peak season is busy, so earlier is safer. We don't dispatch on Melbourne Cup Day, Tuesday 3 November. Full details are on our delivery and returns page.

Diwali hampers in Melbourne: pickup in Truganina

We pack every order in Truganina, in Melbourne's west. If you'd rather collect than wait for the post, pickup in Truganina is available by arrangement. Message us before you order so we can agree a time. Delivery to Melbourne metro addresses is usually 1 to 3 business days after dispatch. There's more about local orders on our Melbourne page.

Diwali hampers for teams and clients

Buying for a workplace, a client list or a temple committee? Small pantry hampers work well for groups because they cost the same for everyone, post flat and don't need refrigeration. Contact us with your headcount, postcodes and whether you'd like the $20 box, the $35 gift pack or single pouches. Ideally get in touch by Friday 23 October, so we can confirm stock and dispatch dates before your internal cut-off. Four or more $20 boxes to one address clear our $79 free shipping threshold.

FAQ

What do you put in a Diwali hamper?

Traditional Diwali hampers hold sweets (mithai), dry fruit and nuts, often with a diya or candle. Pantry hampers swap the sweets for things people use after the festival, such as loose leaf tea, dried curry leaves and spices, or a soap bar. Our $20 Diwali Gift Box has Darjeeling tea 100g, dried curry leaves 30g and a 95g moringa and lavender soap.

How much does a Diwali hamper cost in Australia?

On the Diwali hamper pages we checked on 9 Oct 2026, the cheapest boxes started at about $32 to $40, and many baskets were over $100, with delivery often extra. Our Diwali Gift Box is $20, and our four-item gift pack is $35. Free AU shipping starts at $79.

Can I send a Diwali hamper Australia-wide?

Yes, but check each seller's delivery area first, because some only deliver within one city for Diwali. We post the Diwali Gift Box and gift pack Australia-wide from Truganina, Melbourne, with same-day dispatch for weekday orders placed before 2pm.

When should I order a Diwali hamper so it arrives in time?

For our hampers, order by 2pm Monday 26 October 2026 for other Australian metro areas, or by 2pm Wednesday 28 October 2026 for Melbourne metro, for delivery before Diwali on Sunday 8 November. Rural areas can take up to 10 business days, so order as early as you can.

Is there a Diwali hamper without sweets?

Yes. Pantry hampers skip the mithai altogether. Our Diwali Gift Box has Darjeeling tea, dried curry leaves and a handmade soap, with no sweets and no moringa powder. It keeps well and doesn't melt in the post.

Where can I get a Diwali hamper in Melbourne?

Specialist hamper shops in Melbourne sell large Diwali baskets. For a small pantry hamper, we pack ours in Truganina, in Melbourne's west. Pickup is available by arrangement, and Melbourne metro delivery is usually 1 to 3 business days after dispatch.

Do you do Diwali hampers for corporate gifts?

Yes. Contact us with your headcount, postcodes and preferred option (the $20 Diwali Gift Box, the $35 gift pack or single pouches), ideally by Friday 23 October 2026, so we can confirm stock and dispatch dates.
